More often than not, homeowners will call us when an issue is starting to become a problem, but is not quite there yet, such as; getting a weird smell in the basement, small pools of water in the crawlspace, or finding tiny cracks around door frames. However, the home that will be covered in this case study today was not quite lucky enough. This homeowner was in a pretty serious situation when they decided to call us.
The main issue may be obvious to you from the first photo, but if you have not found it yet, look up! The floor joists under this home were absolutely covered in mold. This can cause some very serious issues, especially health issues in younger children, older adults, and sick people. This was one of the few homes that we deal with that needed to be taken care of as soon as possible.
After our Service Design Specialist visited this home and proposed his solution, and the homeowner accepted our proposal, we were able to suit-up and get our crew to the scene! Since the homeowner knew this was a serious problem, they took no time in preparing for the installation. From the initial estimate to the completed job, less than a month had passed.
The solution was a pretty simple one, not too much different than a normal crawlspace encapsulation except for a little extra work. The products that were installed in this crawlspace (also listed below) were: CleanSpace Liner, Mold-X, a SmartSump sump pump, and a SaniDry Dehumidifier. All four of these products were instrumental parts in creating a healthy and encapsulated crawlspace that wouldn't give this homeowner any more issues.
The first thing to do was to install the sump pump in the crawlspace. The sump pump is placed in the lowest area of the crawlspace, so that gravity helps with the drainage. The next step in dealing with this crawlspace was to kill the mold that was all throughout the crawlspace using Mold-X. The Mold-X is sprayed on the floor joists and not only kills the mold but helps to protect the floor joists from future mold growth.
After that is taken care of, we have the big part of the project; installing the CleanSpace Liner. This next step is one of the most important steps because it is what separates the crawl space from the outside. Once the CleanSpace is laid out, the dehumidifier is installed. In this case, it was a SaniDry-Upright model and was installed near the crawlspace, with a duct kit to help with humidity.
This home was in condition, but with the help of All-Dry of the Carolinas, it was able to be restored to a much healthier state. We are so glad we were able to help this homeowner feel more comfortable in their home and take the worries from their shoulders.
