Why You Should Encapsulate Your Crawl Space

Tuesday, April 25th, 2023 by Alexandra Barker

Did you know that half of the air you breathe in your home comes from your crawl space? If your crawl space isn't encapsulated, you could be breathing in mold or other toxins. Most homeowners don’t realize how important it is to encapsulate their crawl space, not to mention most homeowners never even look in their crawl space.

So why should you encapsulate your crawl space? A crawl space is a dirt floor which is a common source of moisture. When water vapor gets trapped in a crawl space it can bring mold and bacteria into your living space causing allergies, asthma, or other health problems.

A damp crawl space causes negative effects such as rotting wood, increased energy bills, pests, and even more mold growth. To fix this issue, we use our CleanSpace system to encapsulate the entire crawl space to keep it clean and dry. CleanSpace is a thick and durable liner that is mold-proof and waterproof that blocks out moisture and humidity from passing through the crawl space.

By encapsulating your crawl space you are preventing damage to the structural elements of your home, therefore increasing your home value. CleanSpace will seal the crawl space from mold and bacteria and the health of those living in the home won’t be at risk due to the improved air quality.

Once your crawl space has been encapsulated, we recommend a dehumidifier. At All-Dry of the Carolinas, we like to install an Aprilaire E100 commercial-grade dehumidifier in the encapsulated crawl space. Installing a dehumidifier is the most effective way of keeping your encapsulated crawl space dry, preventing mold, condensation, and reducing odors.

It is very important to take care of the well-being of your home and take action as soon as possible. For a free crawl space repair estimate,
