All-Dry of the Carolinas Case Studies: Standing Water in unfinished basement
Challenge
This home in Tallulah Falls, GA was experiencing standing water in the unfinished section of the basement. The unfinished section of the basement had a dirt floor which would absorb the water becoming the perfect breeding ground for mold. As the mold continued to grow, a musty smell began to fill the finished section of the basement, altering the homeowner’s to the issue. Once the homeowners were aware of the issue, they contacted us at All-Dry of the Carolinas to figure out a solution! We sent Jonathan Geddie, one of our Design Specialists out to the property to give the homeowners a free estimate on the work that would be needed to help out this space. After examining the area, Jonathan decided that it would be best to encapsulate the space to remove and prevent further water issues.
Solution
Our All-Dry of the Carolinas team used several of our products such as Mold-X, CleanSpace, A SmartSump Pump, and an Aprilaire Dehumidifier to completely waterproof the space. Mold-X Cleaner was used to clean the contaminated mold surfaces in the crawlspace. Mold-X’s purpose is to remove and reduce staining from mold, mildew, dirt, soil, and other organic debris from surface areas in the crawlspace. Our team then placed CleanSpace in the area, wrapping it around the walls, floor, and piers. CleanSpace is a 20 mil tick liner that is laid across the floor, this liner works as a barrier to keep moister that is produced from the ground out of the basement. In addition to the CleanSpace a SmartSump was added to the basement as a way of pushing excess water that enters from outside. The SmartSump works in coordination with the Aprilaire, a dehumidifier which is used to collect extra moister that is produced under your home. The moister collected from the dehumidifier is then drained into the SmartSump where it is flushed from the basement. Water that enters the SmartSump is flushed from the basement into the LawnScape Outlet. With these products working together the basement will continue to be clean and dry!
