One of the most obvious signs of water intrusion or moisture problems in a crawlspace (besides standing water) is when the insulation under the home is falling down. This was the case for this homeowner. The first photo shows just how much insulation was falling and what had already fallen. The reason that this happens is that insulation easily soaks up water and becomes heavy, pulling the insulation down.

When our Systems Design Specialist went to this home, he knew right away that this homeowner was going to need a CleanSpace Encapsulation. This is the most effective and efficient way to keep water and moisture out of a crawlspace. The homeowner did his own research, and read through some of our informational material, and ended up agreeing with our Specialist, agreeing to get the work done.

The final product was a very clear improvement on the "old crawlspace". The crawlspace with the CleanSpace is much brighter, cleaner, and keeps a lot more moisture out than the crawlspace liner they had covering the ground before! As you can see, the CleanSpace goes almost all of the way up the wall. This is to catch as much moisture as possible, we only leave a small gap at the top so that other contractors who may need to access these areas have the access needed.

Water intrusion in basements and crawlspaces is an extremely common problem, which is an unfortunate truth for homeowners almost everywhere. Even a small amount of water intrusion can cause some pretty serious issues, so even small leaks should be looked at seriously. This happened to be the case for this homeowner in Tryon, NC. There were only a few places where the water was coming through, but where it was coming through, it was a lot.

The "before" photo shows one of the main areas that the water was coming into the basement by. As you can see, the area that the water is coming from is not very big, but the amount of water that has come into the basement is pretty significant. This would happen to the homeowner quite often, and they knew it was something that needed to be taken care of as soon as they could.

The "after" picture provides a much different look at the basement, it almost looks like a new area! The main product that was installed was the WaterGuard drain, which is installed around the perimeter of the basement to catch any and all water that may come through the basement walls. After the water is caught by the WaterGuard, it is drained down to the SuperSump where it gets pumped out and away from the home.

Job Stories From Tryon, NC
Moisture in Tryon, NC Basement/Crawlspace Leads to CleanSpace Encapsulation

Usually, homes that we deal with have either a basement or a crawlspace, but every once in a while we a home who has both. Something that we don't see nearly as often is a basement with a partial crawlspace in it. We've had a few homes like this before, but they certainly don't seem every day. They are always interesting because sometimes it is just the dirt crawlspace that needs to be addressed, but other times the solution includes waterproofing the basement part.

This happened to be the situation for this particular homeowner. They were having some water intrusion in the crawlspace part of this area, but since it was all connected the entire area had high relative humidity levels. The homeowner knew that this could be an issue, so they began to search online for someone to come out and help to fix the problems that they were having. Our Specialist went out to the home and figured out exactly what was going to be needed to solve this problem. This system that was installed included sealing vents, CleanSpace, and one of our TripleSafe Liners with a WaterWatch Alarm.

The next step after our Specialist showed them what was needed, was for the crew to come out and actually install the system. The crew began the job by digging out an area for the sump pump to be installed, as well as sealing the vents in the crawlspace. The TripleSafe Liner was installed and then the crew moved on to the main part of the installation, the CleanSpace. The CleanSpace is very important to the system because it is what actually separates the dirt crawlspace from the rest of the home. The liner is what really keeps the water and moisture from getting into the crawlspace.

Mold, Mildew, Soaked and Cracked Floor Joists in Tryon, NC Crawlspace Leads to Installation of CleanSpace Liner and SmartJacks

High moisture content in a crawlspace can cause some pretty serious damage. This is mentioned throughout a good portion of the content on our website, but only a few homes have areas under there home that is in a very serious situation. Fortunately, we don't see these issues too often, as most homeowners will catch the problem before it gets too far out of hand. But sometimes, for one reason or another, we see homes that have serious damage done to them.

This homeowner knew that they had a pretty serious issue when the called our office. They knew that they were mold and mildew under their home, as well as some of the floor joists under the home were completely soaked with water and some of them had actually been badly damaged and were causing "bouncy" floors. While the damage was severe, the System Design Specialist who went out to the home knew that this would be something that we could take care of. This was a pretty big job because of both the size of the crawlspace and the amount of work that had to be done.

After the Design Specialist drew up a quote for the homeowner, they looked at what was going to be done, loved how the system worked and decided to go ahead and get it done! The next step was for the crew to come out to the home and start the work. One of the first things that needed to be done was to remove the insulation in the crawlspace. The insulation was soaked with water and had been growing mold for quite some time. There were a lot of different parts of the project going on at the same time during the installation, but the two main parts of this job were the installation of the CleanSpace and the SmartJacks under the home. The SmartJacks helped to correct the sagging floors, while the CleanSpace keeps the crawlspace sealed off from the outside. Another big part of this installation was the SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier, which helps to keep the humidity level of the crawlspace below the point where mold and mildew can grow.

Leaking Basement in Tryon, NC Gets WaterGuard Drain and SuperSump Pump

This homeowner had some pretty serious problems with water intrusion in their basement. The first photo gives a pretty good view of how much water was coming into the basement. This was definitely something that we needed to get taken care of as soon as possible. Our Systems Design Specialist Jonathan Geddie went out to this home to figure out what the best course of action would be.

Jonathan's solution consisted of mainly just our WaterGuard drain and a SuperSump pump. This was a pretty simple solution, but an extremely effective one. Fortunately for this homeowner, the water was really only coming from this small area in the basement, so there was only a small amount of WaterGuard that needed to be installed. The proposal was drawn up, approved, and the homeowner went on our schedule!

The crew was finally able to get out to the home and knock out this installation in just a single day! They started with taking digging up the concrete around the perimeter of the wall, as well as excavating an area for the sump pump. Once everything was dug up and prepared for installation, the crew began installing the WaterGuard and SuperSump. Once everything was in place, the crew mixed up some concrete and filled in the gaps! The last two photos show just how much of a difference was made in the basement.

Crawl Space Encapsulation in Tryon, NC

CleanSpace is not a product that is made to keep rodents, insects, and any other animals from getting under a home. However, these homeowners were running out of options and decided that encapsulating their crawlspace couldn't do anything but help the situation. The first couple photos really show how bad this crawlspace was, there were all kinds of critters inhabiting this crawlspace.

The first thing our crew had to do was to clean out the entire crawlspace. Our crew removed all of the insulation, both on the ground and insulation that was still under the floor. The vermin were using this as bedding and was making the problem even worse, so we got rid of this. The great thing about CleanSpace Liner is because everything is encapsulated, it helps to regulate temperature, so insulation is not always needed.

After cleaning out the crawlspace, our crew went to work in laying down the CleanSpace Liner, which usually keeps out moisture, but in this case was being used to try and keep out vermin. As far as we know, this homeowner has not had any further problems with animals, but we definitely know they won't have any problems with moisture!

The danger in having our liner installed to keep rodents out, is that they are great chewers, and can get through our liner without too much trouble. This homeowner took that risk, but it seemed to have worked out. Although, we don't always recommend this option!

We are a basement and crawlspace company, not an exterminator, so we prefer those issues! If you are having any troubles with your crawlspace, basement, or foundation, please give us a call at 1-833-567-3972 or fill out a free estimate form and we'll contact you!
